Teaching natural resource management skills to Afghan youth helps protect the country’s environment and trains future generations how to better sustain precious assets.
Your contribution to Mercy Corps' work in Afghanistan will help communities and families sustain themselves by learning better farming practices. It will also support Afghan youth as they work to learn up-to-date skills in agriculture that will preserve the country's future.
Farming and livestock have long been the backbone of most Afghans' livelihoods. Yet a rapidly changing environment and dire economic conditions have hindered the ability for people to feed their families, either through what they grow or what crops they can sell on the market.
Mercy Corps is working in Afghan communities providing education, training and improved access to high-quality raw materials, such as seeds and fertilizers, to help increase food and livelihood stability. In addition, they are building the capacity of ordinary Afghans, partnering with Purdue University to redevlop agricultural high schools to improve agricultural practices and ensure the country's food security and economy.
