Afghanistan is one of the world’s least developed countries. Most women in Afghanistan are wholly dependent upon their husbands and sons, and many are illiterate. Women are an especially vulnerable part of the Afghan population. Mercy Corps works with groups of Afghan women, training them in poultry keeping, basic hygiene and business skills to help them increase their independence and improve their financial well-being.
